This workshop will explore the importance of culture in a foster family. Participants will learn to differentiate culture from race, ethnicity, or gender. Common cultural misconceptions and conflicts, particularly those involving foster families, will be addressed. Participants will learn about ethnocentrism, stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. The formation of racial identity for children will be presented. Finally, participants will develop parenting strategies to assist children in the development of strong, healthy identity formation and self-esteem.
