928-19 Working with Birth Parents: Making it Positive for Everyone
Date: Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Facilitator: Sherrie Doherty
Location: Cornerstone Building 402 2nd Street S.E. Canton, Ohio 44702
One of the challenges of foster parenting is that of working with the birth parent. This requires foster parents to gain an acceptance and an understanding of the permanency plan and their role in working toward the goals in the plan. Regardless of the goals, there is present in each child in out-of-home placement a love and sense of grief and loss regarding his/her birth parent. There are many different circumstances in which we find the birth parent: incarcerated, deceased, missing, out-of-state, working on reunification, non-compliant with permanency plans, no longer having legal custody. This workshop will help foster parents to embrace and effectively work with these birth parents.
