981-24 When Cultures Collide: Understanding the Impact Your Culture Has on Your Foster Child
Date: Monday, May 22nd, 2017 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Facilitator: Jackie Jackson
Location: Cornerstone Building 402 2nd Street S.E. Canton, Ohio 44702
When one first thinks of culture, race usually comes to mind; however, culture is more complex than race and ethnicity. In this workshop, participants will be challenged to define culture outside of the traditional mindset of race and ethnicity and will consider the impact of culture on children in foster care. We
will discuss a global definition of culture, as well as answer the questions:
• Is culture created through human experiences or through racial identity?
• Is culture transmitted through learning?
We will also discuss the areas of behavior influenced by culture.
